The past few days I have really been looking back on how great things where at times. Don’t get me wrong there were a lot of hard times, many storms, however there where good times as well. I seem to do that in my years of ministry as well. Looking back on the greatness of God and His blessings throughout the years. So many times we get stuck on that past and on the greatness and wonder where is the greatness now. Why aren’t we doing this or that in the church or in my life. The one word that come to my mind as I think about this is the word “Change” sometimes we dislike this word so much. We run from it as fast as we can. Change bring new challenges and the great unknown. But I think there is strength in change, there is growth. In the ministry stance it’s not just personal but spiritual growth. When I look up the word “adapt” I find it’s “to make something suitable for a new use or purpose; to modify.” I love the word “modify” here. I found in my own life over the years I have always tried to “modify” or adjust things to make them better. We do this in our health through better fitness, knowledge through education and so many other areas of our lives. Even in marriage we are always trying to modify it to be better. The same in ministry, we need to sometimes modify how we do what we do. Always looking for ways to do better what we are doing good. A few weeks ago I did a message on the vine and the vinedresser. Sometimes the vinedresser has to cut off the vines that are dead and withered. Sometimes he has to weave the vines together or modify them to making them stronger and healthier. In the same sense we have to cut the dead or what’s not working from our lives or even ministries. As life moves along and you’re doing your day-to-day stuff… Think what are some things that need to be cut from my life… or modified. What about in your place or work, school life. Those who are in a ministry setting: How can we take being good at something to being great at it. What changes do we need to make. Something to think about…
