So seriously am I really going to write about the age-old question did the chicken or the egg come first. Some of you may have to wonder what made me stoop so low that I would spend time writing on just this very topic. Now I agree this is not normally topic I would approach but let’s really dig into this question. Is there in fact I answer to this silly old question. Years ago one pastor told me to make sure you put scripture and everything you do. Now hang on with me for a minute I promise I won’t get to bible corny here. But I do think in order to get the answer we need to go to scripture and I believe we can start in Genesis. Starting in chapter 1 verse 20 “And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”” If we keep reading, you will see that God created man and then later he created woman. In this you’ll notice that when God created both man and woman he created them mature in life. In verse 22 we have to wonder when God said be “fruitful and increase in number”… one could assume these creatures were mature of age in order to reproduce. If you really start to ponder on this thought you can go inside this theory for say with the thought of science and astronomy with the stars. Many scientist non-Christian on the belief of evolution say, based the light from the stars – being millions of light-years away and traveling such a large distance. Point to the fact that the stars are of age. If we put the same principle as we do with the creatures and Adam and Eve in genesis 20 we could also assume that when God created the stars he created them mature, “of age to reproduce and be fruitful” and in this case the age of travel for light. Now it is said that on average chickens start laying eggs from 16 to 20 weeks old. Now, I am no chicken expert but I’m sure with as many farmers and chicken lovers as we do have in the world, one may find this to be true give or take a few weeks.
Okay, Okay.. is this post really about did the chicken or the egg come first or is there more to it. Let’s go to Psalms 37:5 and I will paraphrase “God has a reason for allowing things to happen. We may never understand HIS wisdom, but we simply have to trust HIS will.” One of the biggest questions I get from people who are seeking is “Why did God do this or not do that”, “Why is God… fill in the blank.” whether in fact the chicken or the egg came first is besides the point here. Honestly who cares?!? As we go throughout our lives day-to-day we can get caught up in the every day events and forget that everything happens for a reason. Now we don’t always understand why something happens and sometimes we may never know. But if we hold on to the truth found in Romans 8, I love how The Message Bible says it in verse 28. “…He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”
