“Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.”

Rejection is painful. Maybe you’ve experienced rejection when you were younger in the form of not making the team or not being accepted into the “popular kids” group in school. Maybe you’ve been rejected from a job you really wanted. As painful as some of life’s rejections can be, they are dwarfed by the pain of rejection from someone close to us: a parent, a spouse. A few words from a key person in our world, or the lack thereof, can shape our view of ourselves for our entire lives. Rejection looms as a giant and haunts us with its cousins – insecurity, inferiority, perfectionism, or compulsive drives.
Whenever we believe we’re only as good as our latest success (or failure), we’re in the clutches of the giant of rejection.
Fortunately, God counters that toxic thinking with the only thing that can defeat it: His acceptance. In this session, we will see how David resisted the pull of rejection and how God invites us to embrace the acceptance He offers us.
